    LMS 3.0

LMS 3.0 is the next generation of the learning management system: AI-native, orchestration-first, and built around continuous learner signal rather than the course shell.

LMS 3.0 names the inflection between LMS 2.x — the modern cloud LMS that replaced the original CourseInfo / Blackboard generation — and the AI-native learning platform now emerging. Where LMS 2.x organized learning around the course as the unit of delivery, LMS 3.0 organizes it around orchestration: agents, evidence, and continuous learner state.

The eLearning 3.0 Project is the program of work covering both the platform reference architecture and the institutional practice required to operate it. Defining traits include AI-native authoring, learner-state continuity across courses, evidence-first assessment, and an orchestration layer that coordinates tools, tutors, and content rather than locking them into a single shell.

LMS 3.0 is not a product release. It is the category shift, in the same sense that the original LMS was a category shift away from courseware-on-CD-ROM thirty years ago.
